Free Swim Lessons Program for Kids
According to the CDC, drownings are a leading cause of injury death for young children ages 1-14. In the United States, three children die every day as a result of drowning. Drowning is also the leading cause of injury death for children 1-4 years of age. Research has shown that water safety and swim classes can reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88 %. Because we live along the Colorado River in a desert climate with a lot of residential swimming pools, our Kiwanis Club prioritized improving water safety for young children in the tri-state area by sponsoring this Free Swim Lesson program.
Twenty years ago our service club started the Free Swim Lessons Program in partnership with the Bullhead City Recreation Department. Since then, we have paid almost $150,000 for about 7,500 registrations. This program pays $20 each for an average of 500 registrations per summer for young children in the tai-state area.
